Here's what those letters actually mean, and why it's the single biggest factor in whether a perfume survives a Pakistani afternoon.
What the Letters Mean
- EDC (Eau de Cologne): 2–4% fragrance oil. Very light, fades within 1–2 hours. Mostly used for a quick refresh, not all-day wear.
- EDT (Eau de Toilette): 5–15% fragrance oil. Moderate strength, typically 3–5 hours of wear. Common in cheaper, mass-market bottles.
- EDP (Eau de Parfum): 15–20% fragrance oil. Strong and long-lasting, typically 6–10+ hours. This is the concentration that survives a full workday or event.
- Extrait/Parfum: 20–30%+ fragrance oil. The strongest and longest-lasting, but rare and expensive to produce well.
Why This Matters More in Pakistan Specifically
Heat accelerates fragrance evaporation. A perfume that lasts 6 hours in a mild European climate might only last 3–4 in Lahore or Karachi summer heat. How to Tell What You're Actually Buying
- Check the label, not just the smell in-store — a strong first impression on a paper strip doesn't guarantee all-day performance on skin.

- 600+ sprays per 50ml bottle is a reasonable benchmark for a properly concentrated EDP — if a bottle runs out much faster, the concentration was likely lower than advertised.
